It’s with growing concern that we’ve been following the public debate in recent years. Not because it’s tough and straightforward. That’s not the issue. Direct and open debates can clarify differences and hereby enlighten us about ourselves and each other. No, what worries us is the distrust. The polarization of society.

We worry about echo chambers and the receding will to listen. Denmark is a society where trust in institutions and fellow citizens across social and political divides has traditionally been high. That has meant that we’ve had a good framework for dealing with our disagreements and differences. Yet many people feel insecure. But it’s possible to live together even though we’re different. That's what dialogue coffee is about. The goal is not for everyone to agree. Instead, we must develop and sharpen the ability to accommodate disagreements and diversity.

The vision of our association is a society that builds on and promotes Danish traditions of diversity and disagreement, where everyone can feel equal and welcome in a critical and constructive conversation.

We are working hard to make the Bridge Builders a mass movement, where every citizen takes personal responsibility for the conversation. The goal is not for everyone to agree, but for us to sharpen our ability to accommodate our disagreements and differences.
